Example Itinerary
Day 1 - Fly to São Miguel
Fly to Ponta Delgada, the capital of São Miguel Island
Transfer to your hotel for check-in
Spend the rest of the day at your leisure
Enjoy a welcome dinner and folklore concert in a local, traditional restaurant
Day 2 - Furnas & Lagoa Do Fogo Lakes
Head south towards the valley of Furnas, stopping at small villages and impressive viewpoints along the way
Visit the Furnas Lagoon and taste the traditional cozido, an Azorean meal cooked naturally by volcanic heat
After lunch visit a botanical garden, view the many geysers and mineral water springs and even bathe in a natural hot water swimming pool
Visit a tea plantation for a tasting
You'll then travel to Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lake), a lake in the interior of the crater of an extinct volcano and the highest point above sea level on the Island
Transfer back to Ponta Delgada overnight
Day 3 - Sete Citades
Explore the valley of Sete Cidades, the most popular National Park in the Islands; composed of two lakes in the centre of a volcanic crater, measuring around three miles across!
Enjoy a leisurely walk along the lake shore or relax in a local café
You'll then stop for a buffet lunch at a typical Azorean restaurant
In the afternoon visit the Ethnographical Museum in Capelas
Travel to Faja de Baixo and visit a plantation that grows pineapples in hothouses
Day 4 - São Miguel to Terceira
Transfer to the airport for an internal flight to Terceira Island
Embark on a full day tour of Terciera, also known as Lilac Island
Stop at the Serra Do Cume viewpoint and Praia Victoria for a short panoramic walk
After lunch you'll continue towards Angra do Heroísmo, nominated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Town
En-route you'll visit the Algar do Carvao cave and the natural swimming pools of black volcanic rock in Boscoitos
In the evening you'll check-in to your hotel in Angra do Heroísmo
Day 5 - Terceria Island
Enjoy a walking tour of Angra do Heroísmo in the morning
Visit the main church of Se Cathedral and the City Museum
Stroll through the shopping district and beautiful botanical garden
End the tour with a tasting of some delicious local pastries
Day 6 - Terceira To Pico
Transfer to the airport for the short flight to Pico Island, also known as the Grey Island
Travel to the Hotel Caravelas in the small capital of Madalena
In the afternoon you'll visit the picturesque fishing village of Lajes do Pico
Enjoy a talk on the marine conservation and history of whale watching before setting out for the open seas in the anticipation of seeing dolphins or the magnificent whales
Day 7 - Pico Island
Today you'll travel north to the village of Cachorro
Visit the wine museum, housed in a former vineyard, where you'll taste different local drinks such as verdelho, blackberry liquor and honey rum
Travel to Sao Roque village and stop at the old whale factory before heading to Lajes village to visit the Whaler's Museum
After lunch return to Madalena along the south coast and stop at the Wine Museum
Day 8 - Pico to Faial
After breakfast make the short walk to the ferry terminal and take the 30 minute trip across to Faial
Check in to the Hotel Faial Resort
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant - Genuino, named after the owner's yacht in which he sailed around the world
Day 9 - Faial Island
Wake up in Horta and take a full day tour of Faial, also known as the Blue Island
After lunch, pass by Caldeira, the highest point on the island
On the way to Horta stop in the Espalamaca for a beautiful view over Horta
Day 10 - Fly to the UK
After breakfast you'll transfer to Faial airport for your flight back to the UK
